Tennis Club is well represented in various local and county tennis leagues
providing team competition for junior and senior members. Our competition
focus is split into 3 categories for its members, Senior, Junior
and Recreational teams.
Seniors - teams are chosen from those club members who take
playing seriously, practice regularly and have are are keen to acquire
a standard which is capable of competing in more demanding leagues
such as, Southend & District and Essex Leagues. Our
Men’s 1st team is in the Southend & District LTA Premier
league and finished summer 2009 in 3rd place, while also competing
in the Essex League in the summer and winter, reaching
the Essex Cup Final in 2008.
We are also represented in the Leigh and Westcliff Leagues which is where
the club coach likes to introduce its better club juniors for valuable
experience.
Juniors - teams primarily play in the
Junior Southend and
District League divided by the age groups U10 (Mini
Green), U12, U14 and U16. All matches are singles and count
towards their LTA Ratings card. The better juniors at the club are
regularly chosen to play in recreational teams for experience with
the occasional quality junior being drafted to senior team status.
Recreational - these teams are for those members who want to play
regular competition for fun and health benefits more than emphasis
on competing. Some of our men’s Senior 1st team combined with
our improving members and juniors in the Chelmsford & District
League where they are holding their own in division 2, having
been promoted as Division 3 Champions.
Rochford Tennis club is also involved in the mixed doubles leagues
for Southend and District and the
Leigh and Westcliff. This
gives our members the opportunity to pair up in mixed doubles, and
also a chance for our ladies to play alongside our 1st team men
in a competitive environment.
